Slovenian shooters secured team gold and individual bronze in Zagreb
The 300-metre Lapua European Cup in large-calibre rifle shooting was held at the Vrapčanski potok shooting range in Zagreb, featuring a double programme with shooters competing in two events – the Zagreb Cup and the Croatia Cup.
The Slovenian colours were represented by Urška Kuharič, Robert Markoja, Maksimilijan Žarić and Rajmond Debevec, and the team was led by Andreja Vlah.
In the three-position discipline, Urška Kuharič was the most successful among the Slovenians.
In the men's competition, Robert Markoja finished in 9th place with 582 points in the first match after an excellent performance in the kneeling and prone positions, due to a weaker finish standing. In the second match, he achieved the same result and finished in 7th place. Young Maksimilijan Žarić, who debuted this year at the 300-metre European Cups, scored 573 points in both matches, securing 13th and 12th place respectively, and once again demonstrated his great potential.
In the 60 shots prone discipline, the Slovenian national team achieved an exceptional team success. In the elimination rounds, the men's team secured fifth place in the first series, and in the second, with 1786 points and due to a higher number of inner tens, they defeated Austria to win the team gold medal. Contributing to this success were Rajmond Debevec (597 and 598 points), Robert Markoja (593 and 593 points), and Maksimilijan Žarić, who, with a personal best of 595 points, improved his first-series score by a significant 16 points. Among the women, Urška Kuharič finished in 3rd and 7th place in the elimination rounds with 589 and 591 points respectively.
In both individual prone rifle competitions, Slovenian shooters narrowly missed out on the podium. In the first competition, Urška Kuharič finished fourth with 596 points, Rajmond Debevec took 6th place with 595 points, Robert Markoja finished 7th with 594 points, and Maksimilijan Žarić was 16th with 588 points.
On the second individual competition, the best Slovenian was Rajmond Debevec, who secured a disappointing 4th place with 592 points. Maksimilijan Žarić was tenth with 589 points, Robert Markoja fifteenth with 587 points, and among the women, Urška Kuharič took 5th place with 589 points.
The Slovenian national team concluded their Zagreb double programme with two medals – an individual bronze for Urška Kuharič and team gold in the men's competition in the prone discipline, as well as achieving a series of placings just below the top of the European competition. The national team was successfully led throughout the entire competition by team leader Andreja Vlah.
